Poll Names Star Wars As Least Convincing Romance

From Newsroom America.com

Star Wars couple Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen have been voted as having the least plausible on-screen chemistry by film fans.

The pair beat Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez for their performance in Gigli into second place, which was made when they were a real life couple.

Affleck landed inside the top 10 for a second time, with his chemistry with Kate Beckinsdale in Pearl Harbor failing to convince audiences.

Former on and off-screen couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman also made the list with Eyes Wide Shut.

British pairing Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom were thought “too stiff upper lip” in Pirates of the Caribbean and came in third.

Tango’s Take
How dare you? The most epic adventure in the history of film was spawned by that herky-jerky love affair. Do you think that maybe people showed affection differently a long time ago and in a galaxy far, far away? When do lines like, “I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth,” while stroking someone’s skin not set your heart aflutter? OK, fine; the dialogue isn’t so strong. And either Hayden Christensen or Natalie Portman is not a good actor. It’s not so good for real-life couples to star opposite each other and  have bad chemistry. Maybe Brad and Angelina got together because their on-screen chemistry was pretty good. We were pretty sure that Kidman and Cruise were doomed after their turn in Legs Wide Open. But you don’t see Matt Damon and Ben Affleck dating, so maybe onscreen chemistry is not demonstrative of real life love.

I think we can safely say that it’s Hayden that sucks. Portman’s resume has multiple films of a good reputation (V for Vendetta, Closer, Garden State), while Hayden C is hanging on Shattered Glass and his time as the father of Luke and Leia.

Check out Natalie Portman in Closer. I would hurt that.
