Career Divorcer Doesn’t Win This Time

British woman fails to win anything from fourth husband.

Career Divorcee

A woman, Susan Crossley, on her fourth high-profile divorce got none of this husband’s dinero. The comely British woman has grossed £18 million (about $36 million American) on her first three divorces. The UK is known as the divorce capital of the world for a reason. Mrs. Crossley, who had been married to Mr. Stuart Crossley for only 14 months, abandoned her claim because of an airtight prenup. Evidently, Stuart Crossley’s side insisted on a Massey Prenup (see Intolerable Cruelty).

Mrs. Crossley felt that the prenup was invalid because Mr. Crossley had neglected to disclose all off-shore holdings. But in the courts this December, a trio of Lord Justices threw out her petition saying that her prenup takes precedent over other claims. This is a bit of a turnaround in the way that divorce has worked in the UK. Lord Justice Thorpe was dismayed that, “very rich people are demanding full scale trials,” and stretching the legal system to its limits. And he telepathically added, ‘I’m looking at you, Heather Mills.’

Bummer for Mrs. Crossley, pretty good deal for justice. I’m not saying she’s a gold digger…
