My Girlfriend’s A Doll, Literally

A glimpse into the lives of men in relationships with life-like dolls.

Thanks to our blogger friend, FunkyBrownChick, we get to share the following piece of potentially disturbing material with you.

Where Lars and The Real Girl” — a film starring Ryan Gosling as a socially awkward man who falls for a life-size female doll but ultimately settles with a real-life woman — was touching, the men featured in “Guys And Dolls” — a documentary about real-life men living with one or more rubber, life-like dolls — seem just plain touched.

The profiled owners see themselves as unable to score the kind of woman that the California-based dolls are modeled after (the company, Abyss Creations, sells approximately 400 dolls a year). In fact, the men all reported feeling used by or incompetent in handling the needs of real women; the dolls, which start at $6,500, fulfill their desires for companionship and sex.

One man, who lives in Michigan with his parents and his doll, says he bought her because while he’s comfortable “being alone”, he’s uncomfortable feeling “lonely.” As we reported a few months ago, researchers have claimed loneliness to be more detrimental to one’s health than smoking.

Still, open minded as I tried to be, I couldn’t watch the following without feeling slightly to extremely creeped out.
