This Week In Gay Marriage: Cali May Ban

A measure passes that will put California gay marriage ban to a vote.

California Gay Marriage BanJust when you thought it was safe for a dude to marry a dude in California. The Mercury News reports that a measure to ban gay marriage gained enough signatures to force a vote on the November ballot. Clearly, a lot of people are not fans of Ellen. Starting June 17th, homosexuals of the marrying type will get a chance to get married but if the ban passes in November there could be some confusion. You would think that the Gavin Newsom experiment in San Francisco would have cleared some things up. Somewhere, Gray Davis is laughing his ass off, “you can have ‘em, Arnold.”

All it takes to get a measure on the ballot is to obtain 8% of the total votes in the last governor’s race (or 694,354 in this case). They got roughly 60% more than that. It seems like getting signatures on a petition would be a job that you hire a broker for. “700,000 signatures? I can get you 750,000 by 5 o’clock this afternoon. Dina, where the hell is my rolodex?”

What’s the point in legalizing gay marriage in the first place? That’s ridiculous. It’s like, “Oh, you managed to jump through the window while it was open, so we’ll recognize you. But you two got married several months later, so sorry.”
